Finally it’s here, the very first official trailer for The Witcher show from Netflix. It is no secret that I am a huge fan of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it is one of my favourite video games of all time. When it was announced that Netflix was doing a tv adaptation I was pretty sceptical, as these can be pretty hit or miss. As someone that played the game first and has started to read the books, I have particular attachment to the video game adaptation and portrayal of characters. It will be interesting to see what will be different in the show, knowing it will be more based off of the books.
When it was revealed who would be playing the characters, I wasn’t necessarily concerned, but I couldn’t really see it. However, as more and more has been slowly shown, the more and more promising it looks to me. The first trailer definitely continues that trend and has me really excited to see how it all pans out. Henry Cavill as Geralt is really growing on me, as well as the actresses playing Yennefer and Ciri. The monsters, fight sequences and cinematography all look high quality.
As I read more of the books, I’ll have a better understanding of the background that the show will be based off. It is safe to say that this has gone from being a show I was concerned and cautiously optimistic about, to being one of my most anticipated shows of the near future. I cannot wait to see the what Netflix has created with the incredibly source material, memorable characters and dark setting when it comes out later this year.
I am looking forward to the show but as a fan of the franchise (Gwent player right here), I’m increasingly convinced this teaser wasn’t made for people who know it already; more to draw everyone else in. I think that Henry Cavill is going to make a great Geralt too – he’s passionate and clearly talented. I’m excited to delve into it deeper as we find out more about it.

You make a good point. I have played the second and third game and just started to read the books, so I do have knowledge of the characters and context, however, hopefully once I’ve read more of the books I’ll have an even better understanding. I really hope Netflix can nail the execution, as that trailer showed so much promise 🙂
