A Gamer’s Life #7

Hi everyone, I hope you’ve had a great September so far. I wanted to update everyone on what I’ve been playing and what’s to come from the blog in the future.

My summer break is coming to a close, as I’ll be returning for my third and final year studying history at Bournemouth University next week. Because of this, I will have less time to spend working on and writing content. I will be aiming for a single post a week, but this may increase or decrease depending on the workload I have. I will try to regularly post on a Wednesday as that will likely be the easiest time to fit around my schedule.

It has been a pretty busy time for game releases this past month, and I have had the chance to playthrough a number of both great and lacklustre games. I finished Man of Medan, Old Man’s Journey, Gears 5 and Greedfall. My review for Old Man’s Journey went up last week, check it out here! I’m currently writing my review for Man of Medan right now, so that will be going up next week, I’m looking forward for you to read it. I played through the entire Gears of War franchise including the latest, through Gamepass (such a great service!) and I really enjoyed them, more than I though I would. Greedfall was pretty good, despite being rough around the edges. The story was intriguing, the side quests were well designed and the combat was quite fun. I have a review for that as well in the coming weeks. I also finished Control, which was my first Remedy game. A brilliant atmospheric adventure, with very satisfying combat. It has made me really want to try out Alan Wake now, hopefully it gets a remaster.

It was also my 22nd birthday on Saturday where I got the Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch remaster on PS4. I am a massive fan of Studio Ghibli, but I never got to play it when it was released back on the PS3. I’m loving it so far, from the signature Ghibli animations, to an engrossing story and combat. After I have a number of reviews finished and published on the blog, I’m looking forward to writing some more essay/opinion piece content again, it’s been a while since I’ve done a proper one. If you have any suggestions for the type of content you’d like to see, let me know in the comments.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post, I hope you enjoyed it. Also let me know down in the comments what games you’re playing and enjoying at the moment? For all things gaming, stay tuned to Honest Gamer.

  1. Good luck with your final year, your blog will aways be here. Happy belated birthday too! I really want to play Ni No Kuni, I didn’t own a PS3 either, I just need to rattle my other rpgs off my backlog. Talking abour reboots/remakes could be a good topic for your blog, I’ve entertained the idea too outside of reviews. 🙂

    1. Thank you 😊 I was actually thinking about doing a post on the issues surrounding the FF7 remake soon. While I am kind of looking forward to it, there are some problems I have, specifically how they are spreading it across likely 3 or 4 parts.

  2. Good luck for your final year! It’s tough but enjoy every moment, good and bad – it only happens once!

I tried Ni No Kuni back on the PS3 but didn’t really get on with it. Apparently they second one is better so I might give that a whirl.

    1. Thanks a lot 😊. I just finished Ni No Kuni and I actually prefer it to the second one. Studio Ghibli’s involvement is really clear to see, which was something missing from 2. I still liked the second one, but the themes and messages in the original were better handled I felt.
